Easy + Inexpensive Letter Marquee

Create your own letter marquee without burning a hole in your pocket!

Here's how I did it!

Materials needed:

Wooden contact paper: Mr. DIY (RM 4.90)
Mounting Board (A3 size x 3 pieces): Popular bookstore (RM 1.50)
Fairy Lights: Mr.DIY (RM 6.90)
Hot glue gun (with approx. 10 gluesticks)
Scissors
 Blade

 Step 1:

Create a template of your choice (It could be a letter, icon, shape or anything your heart desires!).

Step 2:

Trim the contact paper according to the size of the mounting board.

 Step 3:

Attach the contact paper onto both sides of the mounting board.

*Tips: Pull back the first 2 inch of the backing, lay the contact paper onto the surface. Slowly pull away the backing while you run a ruler or straight edge along the surface to push out the air bubbles as you go along (same method used in the previous DIY).

It should look like this.

Step 4:

Outline and cut according to the template.

 Step 5:

Turn the letter over with the back facing up, draw a line down the center of the letter.

Then, use a pencil to mark where you need to create holes for your fairy lights. Mine was approx. 6cm apart.

*Tips: Start with the corners and edges of the letter, then measure and mark inwards evenly apart for a neater outlook.

Step 6:

Create holes as marked to fit the fairy lights.

 Step 7:

Create strips of 7cm width. These will go around the letter and will help them stand.

Step 8:

Surround and trim the strips to fit the parameter of the letter. Bend the strips if necessary.

Step 9:

Attach contact paper on both sides of all strips.

Step 10:

Attach the letter onto the center of each strips.

*Tips: Use a tape to temporarily secure it's position before proceeding to hot glue. It also helps to hold it's position while the hot glue dries.

Step 11:

Insert fairy lights.

DONE!

Go creative and customize them in different designs, prints and sizes too!
