Geometric Ornament

HOHOHO! What's more exciting than creating your own Christmas ornament for your tree this season!

 Materials needed:

Straight transparent straws: Daiso (RM5.30)
Spray paint (Sparkling Gold color): Mr. DIY (RM8.90)
Scissors
Transparent thread/fish thread

Step 1:

Prepare 8 short straws (6cm each) and 4 long straws (9cm each).

Step 2:

Snip 4 strands of thread (approx. 20cm each) and tie them into a knot.
Ps. I used a black thread instead for better visibility. :)

Step 3:

Insert 1 short straw into each thread.

Step 4:

You will need to connect both existing straws with one short straw horizontally to create a triangle. By doing so, insert left tread into the horizontal straw leaving it coming out from the right of the straw, likewise to the right thread.

It should look like this.

Step 5:

Do it to all threads and as shown above.

Step 6:

Insert long straw into each thread.

Step 7:

Hold on to all four threads and pull them tightly till it forms into the shape of a diamond. Then tie a knot to secure it.

It should look like this.

Step 8:

Spray them thoroughly.
*Tips: It's easier to hang it compared to placing it on the floor for an even coat of paint. Use the newspaper to prevent staining other surfaces too.

DONE!

Go creative and customize them in different geometric designs, colors and sizes!

Easy + Inexpensive Letter Marquee

Create your own letter marquee without burning a hole in your pocket!

Here's how I did it!

V

V

V

Materials needed:

Wooden contact paper: Mr. DIY (RM 4.90)
Mounting Board (A3 size x 3 pieces): Popular bookstore (RM 1.50)
Fairy Lights: Mr.DIY (RM 6.90)
Hot glue gun (with approx. 10 gluesticks)
Scissors
 Blade

 Step 1:

Create a template of your choice (It could be a letter, icon, shape or anything your heart desires!).

Step 2:

Trim the contact paper according to the size of the mounting board.

 Step 3:

Attach the contact paper onto both sides of the mounting board.

*Tips: Pull back the first 2 inch of the backing, lay the contact paper onto the surface. Slowly pull away the backing while you run a ruler or straight edge along the surface to push out the air bubbles as you go along (same method used in the previous DIY).

It should look like this.

Step 4:

Outline and cut according to the template.

 Step 5:

Turn the letter over with the back facing up, draw a line down the center of the letter.

Then, use a pencil to mark where you need to create holes for your fairy lights. Mine was approx. 6cm apart.

*Tips: Start with the corners and edges of the letter, then measure and mark inwards evenly apart for a neater outlook.

Step 6:

Create holes as marked to fit the fairy lights.

 Step 7:

Create strips of 7cm width. These will go around the letter and will help them stand.

Step 8:

Surround and trim the strips to fit the parameter of the letter. Bend the strips if necessary.

Step 9:

Attach contact paper on both sides of all strips.

Step 10:

Attach the letter onto the center of each strips.

*Tips: Use a tape to temporarily secure it's position before proceeding to hot glue. It also helps to hold it's position while the hot glue dries.

Step 11:

Insert fairy lights.

DONE!

Go creative and customize them in different designs, prints and sizes too!

Marble Clock Notebook

Turn your free notebooks and broken clock into this minimalist notebook
Marble and clock, Oh my!

Here's how I did it!

V

V

V

Materials needed:

Marble contact paper: Mr. DIY (RM 4.90)
Notebook: FOC
Broken analog clock mechanism: FOC
White drawing paper (1 cm smaller in dimension than notebook cover)
Double sided tape
Blade
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Thread

Step 1:

Remove spiral bound from pages.

 Step 2:

Measure and cut contact paper approximately 1cm larger in dimension than the notebook cover.

Grids behind contact paper helped a lot too! Bye bye crooked lines!

Step 3:

Attach contact paper onto notebook cover.

*Tips: Pull back the first 2 inch of the backing, lay the contact paper onto the surface. Slowly pull away the backing while you run a ruler or straight edge along the surface to push out the air bubbles as you go along.

Step 4:

Fold in the edge of the contact paper onto the back of the notebook cover.

Your cover should look like this.

Step 5:

Attach a piece of drawing paper that is slightly smaller in dimension than the cover onto the back of the cover.

Step 6:

Cut holes on the contact paper following the ones on the cover.

Step 7:

Detach the clock hands and shaft from the clock mechanism.

Step 8:

Remove all the extra elements from the shaft. Just the spine and the last piece will do. :)

The shaft should look like this.

Step 9:

Poke a hole in the middle of the front cover.

Step 10:

Attach the shaft from the back with the second hand of the clock at the front of the cover.

Step 11:

Reattach the spiral bound with the pages.

Step 12 (Optional):

Tie a string to the hour and minute hand then attach it to the upper corner of the spiral bound. The hour and minute hand can act as a bookmark for your notebook.

DONE!

Customize them in different colors, sizes, patterns or you could even use a real clock too!
